Turning complex processes into intuitive online tools for global audiences

We created a new brand and a Drupal-based digital, customizable toolbox empowering governments around the world to easily adapt an urban planning process to their needs and context with modular, customizable online tools.

The team at Cloudred recognized the impact that the online version of the guide could deliver. We were excited to make it immediately clear what “Our City Plans” was and what it could offer, making the Toolbox the centerpiece of the interactive experience with an intuitive and engaging way to interact with it. We set out to create an informative, useful digital tool that the users will return to time and again.

While the publication version of the toolbox met certain needs and reached some audience members, it was difficult to update over time. It did not accommodate layers of data that were updatable in real time. By creating a digital version of the publication, taking advantage of the affordances of mobile and online experiences, we created a new way to engage with the toolbox content that enabled visitors to customize the urban planning process and content, making it relevant to each city’s specific needs and contexts.

With its modern, playful interface that accurately reflects the creators of this urban planning guide as well as an organization as a whole, the new digital platform offers invaluable resources to the urban planning community while effectively communicating UN-Habitat’s goals and priorities.
