SuperCook on The Today Show

Site: SuperCook
Client: AMR Systems

The Project
AMR Systems had an interesting question: How can we make recipe searching better? This client knew that the existing status quo was clunky and inelegant. On most recipe searching websites, one can input a few ingredients and you are returned hundreds of recipes, some of which are quite infeasible to make because you don’t have all the ingredients in your kitchen.

Our Solution
Our involvement in the project started with branding. AMR System requested a lighthearted, fun brand that could extend to web, environment, and print. We then moved onto interactive design for the website. We conducted a thorough interface and design exploration, followed by front end programming and AJAX programming.

The solution is simple and straightforward. You can enter any number of food ingredients and the recipes returned are those you can make. If you are missing ingredients for a particular recipe, the website tells you.

The response
The site attracts thousands of unique views a day, including us when we don’t have a clue what to cook after work. It’s been called “super user friendly” which makes us think we’ve done a good job.

The site has received overwhelming positive reviews from the blogosphere and mainstream media sources including BBC, Telegraph, and the NY Post. Time Magazine named it one of the 50 best websites of the year in 2009.
