ABC News engaged our interaction and visual design services for their new iPad app. In addition to designing an app that was visually eye-catching, it had to be intuitive, easy-to-use, and content-scalable for all of the news divisions at ABC News.
The leading driver of this App was the news content. This App had to engage the spectrum of users: casual to no-frills news readers. In addition to the sphere or globe in the iPad App, we presented alternative visions for the App that encouraged swiping through content in a fun, easy way. The Client and our team recognized that there would be a strong element of play and intuition in this App.
On release, the App climbed to Number 1 on the Apple Store and remained in the Top 10 for several weeks. We believe it’s a strong first step in creating an engaging and informative News App. As of December 2010, the app is on 590,000 iPads. The project got a shoutout from AdAge for “Best TV Broadcast News IPad App.”
